Ohh... Look... And in a "Catholic" country too!

Okay... Perusing my normal morning reads, and of course, the BBC figures strongly in my daily sources of news.

Spain has SPOKEN... (article) and I'm SO chuffed for the folks that live in Spain.

Of COURSE the Catholic Church tried to "block" the legislation, but in spite of the meddling clerics of Rome the folks were able to pass this'n through.

My favourite quote from the article is:

"We are not legislating, ladies and gentlemen, for remote unknown people - we are expanding opportunities for the happiness of our neighbours, our work colleagues, our friends, our relatives" - Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero

That's the true point. I don't really understand why the US Gov. amongst MANY others seem to feel the need to write laws BANNING Gay couples from marriage. This is a really bad point with a lot of folks, okay, I know that... But really one has to wonder why LAWS are needed banning or allowing gay marriage. Marriage is only half civil. Otherwise it's a religious thing. And the fact that people get SO angry about the idea is usually a religious reason. "God says it's wrong."

Um... Folks... God never said that two gay people having sex and/or living together was evil. A human said that. I mean... A HUMAN said that. Not God. God didn't say ANYTHING about that at all. Okay? God passed down the 10 Commandments, supposedly... Okay... Good. Where on that list does it say "Thou shalt not have sex with others of your same sex." I don't remember reading that one. Also... When your Christ showed up... He said there's only TWO commandments. Love God before all, and love your neighbours as yourself.

Um... Love.

Yeah... Just LOVE. That's all he said... He didn't say "DON'T LOVE" he said love.

Perhaps if the human race did a little more loving one's neighbour, and less "God told me to kill you." shit... We'd all be in a better place.

Ave Caesar!

Okay... So, if you really want to, you're welcome to read Mr. Bush's speech from Tuesday evening... HERE.

I'm not going to go on and on about his blatent lying... As other's have already spoken of his shortcomings cropping up through his speech. I'm going to "Make Fun"

But of course, since I'm a slimy bastard... My "making fun" is pretty fucking serious. Here's a little quote from his speech:

"Before our coalition liberated Iraq, Libya was secretly pursuing nuclear weapons. Today the leader of Libya has given up his chemical and nuclear weapons programs. Across the broader Middle East, people are claiming their freedom. In the last few months, we have witnessed elections in the Palestinian territories and Lebanon. These elections are inspiring democratic reformers in places like Egypt and Saudi Arabia. Our strategy to defend ourselves and spread freedom is working. The rise of freedom in this vital region will eliminate the conditions that feed radicalism and ideologies of murder - and make our nation safer."

Is THIS IDIOT ACTUALLY taking credit for democracy in Lebanon and Palestine? I'm mean, REALLY?

Mr. Bush... They've been democracies since after WWII. They didn't have elections because of YOU they had them 'cause they just have them. They HAD to have an election in Palestine as Arafat had just died. If he was still ALIVE, Mr. President... Then they wouldn't have had an election. Okay? Any MORE questions?

Gah.

"Our strategy to defend ourselves is working... "

Right. How's about THIS poll, hmmmmm Mr. Bush?

GAH.

Okay... I'm done with the rant. See ya's all tomorrows.

My friend asked me about calling myself an "Ex-pat" Yank. He brought up the idea of the 2nd definition (noun) in my Encarta Dictionary (courtesy of Microsoft Word) and I want to stress not the 2nd definition, but the 1st one here... I'm an American living in Britain... I've lived here for almost two years, I'm marrying a Brit in a few months, and I have serious ties to this little island in the Northern Atlantic.

I'm NOT revoking my citizenship from the US. Anything BUT! In fact... As you read more entries by me, you'll soon understand JUST how politically and socially an American I actually AM.

I guess the big reason that I am calling myself an "ex-pat" is because in a lot of ways beyond the definition, I actually AM an ex-pat. I've always felt a bit cut off from my fellow Americans. Whereas in Britain, I fit in surprisingly well. After living in England for only a few months, most of my "new" British friends started saying how I wasn't really an American, I was just a Brit who happened to be born in the wrong country.

At the time... Desperate to "fit in" as it were, I was rather HAPPY that they thought that of me... I thought, HECK, I finally fit in somewhere... My big nose and the noise it makes when I blow it... My political rather "tree-huggy" sort of views were shared by many around me... My height, my build... Everything physical and emotional seemed to be so "British."

Now that I'm coming to the end of my stay in Britain, I've slowly begun the change BACK to being an American. The fact that I'm a liberal, tree-hugging, save the whales, environmentally motivated person does NOT make me less an American... Damn it... I AM an American. Just because I find the current government in America to be a fucking mess does NOT mean that I'm not an American... No matter WHAT Karl Rove says. (Article)

Anyhoo... I'm done for the day, enjoy yours!
